Moonlight Best Picture Winner

THE GOAL

The goal was to market Moonlight successfully to a wide variety of audiences, for a film that was expected to have a more narrow, arthouse appeal.

THE PROCESS

Operam’s approach for the digital marketing campaign of Moonlight was to create a custom user journey for each audience group interested in the film. This was essential for driving high engagement and reaching the individuals most likely to convert into ticket sales.

THE RESULTS

Moonlight broke the top 25 in per-theater averages ever, with a theater average over $100k. Moonlight would then go on to receive eight nominations at the 89th Academy Awards, the second highest of all nominees. The film won three awards: for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.
